ait status

Inspect the current Line, repository state, workspace state, remotes, and worktree health.

Audience: Users and coding agents

Role#

Safe for the user or coding agent as the first repository inspection.

Purpose#

ait status summarizes the current Line, head Snapshot, workspace state, configured remotes, repository identity, and worktree health. It is read-only with respect to product lineage.

Syntax#

Code · bash
ait status
ait status --json

Example#

Code · bash
ait status --json

Use JSON when a coding agent must decide whether the canonical root or a Task-bound workspace is active. Use the compact text view for a quick human orientation.

Output#

Typical fields include the current Line, default remote, head Snapshot, workspace changed counts, repository name, and worktree hygiene. Operational health detail can change without creating a new Snapshot.

Failure and recovery#

If repository discovery fails, confirm the intended repository root and run ait init only when no valid authority exists. If status reports a dirty workspace, inspect ait diff before starting or recovering a Task.
