ait diff

Compare the current workspace with the current Line head using bounded path filters.

Audience: Users and coding agents

Role#

Safe for the user or coding agent before a Snapshot, repair, or recovery decision.

Purpose#

ait diff compares the current workspace with the current Line head. It does not select arbitrary Snapshot ranges; use ait snapshot diff for immutable Snapshot comparison.

Syntax#

Code · bash
ait diff
ait diff --stat
ait diff --name-only
ait diff --path <path>

Path inputs are exact lexical filters, not shell-style patterns. --stat and --name-only are alternate summaries.

Example#

Code · bash
ait diff --path src/LoginForm.tsx

The result classifies modified, missing, and untracked paths and bounds large or binary content rather than printing an unlimited payload.

Output#

The normal text view emphasizes changed paths and useful content. --json provides the machine boundary when automation needs exact classifications. Sprint Markdown is tracked through Plan lineage and does not appear as code workspace content.

Failure and recovery#

If an expected file is absent, inspect the Task workspace and Line before restoring anything. Do not overwrite unrelated changes to force a clean diff.
